NITEL will in September, rollout 1.2 million wireless lines into the market, its Communication Manager, Bala Abdulkadir, has said.
Abdulkadir told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Abuja, that already more than 20,000 lines had been activated in Abuja, Lagos and Enugu, in a pilot scheme, to test the market. The project, he said, was being financed by a consortium of banks, to the tune of 126.547 million dollars and some N1.23 billion.
Abdulkadir explained that the pre-paid lines would add value to the company's earnings, and enhance its competitiveness in the telecommunication market. "As soon as we complete the base transceiver stations and the SIM cards and scratch cards components, we shall commence operations nationwide," he said.
The system, he said would be urban-based, but would be expanded to cover all areas of the country.
