Minister for Education, Mrs Chinwe Obaji, at the weekend identified the need for stakeholders in Polytechinc Education to be more committed to its growth, to enhance the country's technological breakthrough.

Obaji said this in Ede, Osun State during the 4th convocation ceremony of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, adding that it was when they are committed to its growth that the much expected standard of education could be achieved.

According to him,"we should all show serious commitment by joining hands with goverment in improving the standards and quality of technological education in the country and this will go a long way in moving the nation forward."

Obaji, who was represented by the Director, Higher Education, Dr I. K. Nazifida, said "technological education is the bedrock of economic development which developed nations have long recognised and taken advantage of, and that Nigeria can equally attain technological greatness if we all join hands together and demonstrate high level of commitment in our search for technological breakthrough.

" To realise this, goverment has put in place neccessary machinery to ensure good governance through the enunciation of various reforms programmes.

"We have conducted research on indigeneous technology through conducive enviroment as a step to technological advancement and it is now left for the academic community to avail themselves and find ingenious ways of promoting academic excellence and technological development," he said, and called on graduands to be good ambassadors of the institution.

Obaji said it was by so doing that the image of the polytechnic can continue to wax stronger.

She advised undergraduates to stay away from examination mal-practices, secret cults among others, saying the social vices are serious impediments to their academic pursuits.

Over 6,000 students of the institution were awarded Ordinary National Diploma and Higher National Diploma.

The convocation was attended by governors of Kano State, Alhaji Ibrahim Shekarau, Jigawa, Saminu Turaki, represented by his deputy, and the host Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola
