UNIONDALE, New York A man who had been making plans to go to his native Nigeria to get married was shot dead on the street where he lived, police said.
Calvary Muonuagha, 30, was gunned down in Uniondale on Long Island early Tuesday morning. A neighbor called police after hearing the shot. Muonuagha was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Family members told Newsday newspaper that Muonuagha worked as a cab driver, and had already purchased a plane ticket and paid for the wedding, which was scheduled for November.
His younger brother, Kingsley, said Muonuagha had been saving money for a long time and looked forward to the wedding.
"He had already picked a wife and he was so excited," he said. "Now, it can't happen."
Police have no motive or arrests in the shooting.
