Saying that Nigeria is a backward nation, is merely stating the obvious. Nigeria needs improvement in more places than one.
The good news is that we don't have to remain backward.
What happens is that most decision makers in Nigeria are generally unaware of what obtains outside of their immediate environment.
So to help reverse this trend, here is one thing we should consider adopting.
This page:

allows you to order shipping boxes free of charge from the US Postal Service.
In addition, you can print postage and shipping labels directly online.
This simple service allows anybody to package their parcel at home, weight it on a scale, and print postage online.
Once the package is ready, you go online and tell the US Postal Service to pick it up. Ultimately, you do not need to leave your home or office in order to mail a parcel.
This significantly cuts down on lines at the post office, and facilitates commerce, since you don't have to take time off to visit the post office just to mail your parcels.
Nigeria needs to start thinking in this direction.
Not to sound self-serving, but somebody like me who is a software programmer, can easily create a solid application that will do what the US Postal Service website does.
So, what exactly is preventing us from doing this?
