President Olusegun Obasanjo has recently approved the Wire Nigeria Programme and the state Accelerated Broadband Initiative that would revolutionize telecommunications service delivery in Nigeria.

The Chief Executive Officer of Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Engr. Ernest Ndukwe, revealed this during a courtesy visit to the Kano state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, recently.

Engr. Ndukwe told the governor that Kano state was selected to host a key branch of the proposed Nigerian exchange point and solicited the cooperation of the state government towards achieving the set goals.

In his response, the state governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, said the state will soon unfold its ICT policy programme which will ascend the information and communications technology ladder.

Shekarau, who noted that ICT was needed for socio-economic development of every society, described it as both challenging and an opportunity, while assuring the commission that his administration would work closely with agencies and organizations in order to derive the potentials of ICT in promoting development.

Meanwhile, Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has commissioned Mainika, Kogon Kura, Nassarawa and Pingoji electrification projects in Gwarzo local government area of the state.

Performing the function, the governor assured that his administration would not relent in executing people oriented projects. He however urged communities yet to benefit from the projects to be patient as their needs would be attended to.

He urged the people to make judicious use of the projects and to protect them from vandalization.

The chairman of Gwarzo local government council, Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad, thanked the government for executing numerous projects, pledging his continued loyalty to the administration.

The governor had earlier inspected the extension of Government Day Secondary School, Riji, also in Gwarzo local government.

Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has also commissioned eight generators for water supply in Rimin Gado local government and commissioned Unguwar Rimi road project in Tofa local government area.
