Lagos Five-Star Hospital Impresses Obasanjo

Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has lauded the decision of the management of Reddignton to site a five-star hospital in Lagos. He said the venture would add to the growing profile of the country in the comity of nations.

The President was particularly impressed by the fact that members of the international community, represented by their diplomatic missions in Nigeria, now have a health facility they could rely on for treatment.

Obasanjo was represented at the commissioning of the hospital by the Minister of Health, Prof. Eyitayo Lambo. He described the coming of the hospital as a welcome development for the country, especially in its quest for a comprehensive tertiary institution that will provide first class medical services to the people.

He stated that over the years, many embassies, corporations, as well as Nigerians have looked forward to the establishment of a five-star hospital where they could go for check-up and treatment instead of going abroad.

“I share the hope that the Reddington multi-specialist hospital will now serve many Nigerians and non-Nigerians resident here who have until now travelled overseas for healthcare at great cost in foreign currency and often with great difficulty and even danger involving separation from most of their family (members) during their investigations and operation or other treatment, he said.

He expressed optimism that more private hospitals will rise to the need for tertiary healthcare services, which used to be the exclusive domain of teaching hospitals.

President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Reddington Hospital, Dr Yemi Onabowale, stated that the establishment of the facility was borne out of the dire need for Nigeria to have a modern hospital where all medical specialties are practised under the same roof.

He said the Reddington journey as a healthcare delivery provider in Nigeria started in January 2003 with the establishment of the Cardiac Centre in association with the renowned Crownwell Hospital in London whose aim was to provide a comprehensive one-stop solution for cardiac related disorders.

According to him, the Reddington Hospital now provides comprehensive tertiary hospital solutions in the field of internal medicine including its special expertise in cardiology with coronary and intensive care unit, Renal Dialysis, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, surgery including Endoscopy, Ophthalmology, ENT, Radiography and Psychiatry.
