20,000 Unemployed Graduates Plan 7-Day Hunger Strike

Unemployed Graduates Association, AUG, Rivers State said, the body would soon embark on a seven-day hunger strike to protest the cute unemployment crisis inthe country.

The publicity secretary of the body, Mr. Nkesi Onueka disclosed this to Saturday Champion in Port-Harcourt during a chat.

He lamented that the condition of unemployed youths has continued to deteriorated inspite of pleas by the association to companies, the government and other private organisations.

The hunger strike, Nkesi said, would bring public attention to the plights of youths, prticularly those without jobs, although he did not say when the strike would commence.

The association, he said, has more thn 20,000 members unemployed nd are roaming the streets daily for employment.


He commended the management of S.J. Abed Nigeria Limited for engaging indigenous staff. According to him more than 80 per cent of the workforce in the company are indigenes of the state.

The firm he sid, has maintained cordial working relationship with its host community, even as he lauded the management for embarking on indigenous suppliers contract.

According to Nkesi, the company has proved to be youth-friendly and reliable, while calling on other companies to emulte the gesture to reduce the unemployment rate.
