Biometric Time and Attendance System

Postby Richard Akindele » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:32 am

If you are an employer, one of the challenges you probably face is getting your employees to show up for work on time. You may find yourself at odds with one employee or another about their arrival time to work.

Technology is your friend in solving this problem. A Biometric Time and Attendance System makes your employees sign in on arrival, and sign out when they leave. For a pay period, you simply tally up the employees hours, and that is what he/she gets paid for.

This is a self-regulating method of making sure people show up for work on time. One thing people don't play with is their salary. The first time somebody gets paid less because of their poor attendance, will probably also be the last time. The knowledge that the number of hours your work is the number of hours you get paid for, is all that an employee needs to show up for work on time.

So what is this Biometric device?

It's a small machine that is pre-programmed with an employee's finger prints. From then on, the employee simply places a finger on the device to register arrival or departure.

There is no way to cheat a system like this, since every finger print is unique, and nobody can sign in or out for somebody else.

You may think that a device like this would cost an arm and a leg. But in reality, one of these machines can cost as low as $200.

It sounds almost to good to be true, that a paltry $200 investment can help solve a major problem like employee truancy, and poor attendance record. No longer would your employees be able to go for break, and return at a time of their choosing. You no longer need to keep an eye on everybody to make sure they're there when you're not.

Of course, nothing stops somebody from signing in, and leaving work immediately. If you have such disloyal employees, then you must complement a time tracking system with surveillance cameras.

How does a Biometric Time device work?

It's simple. You connect the device to a computer via a USB port.
You install the provided software on the computer.

For every new employee, you take the finger prints into the computer. Now each time the employee places a finger on the Biometric device, it compares the finger print with those on record. If there's a match, the user's time is registered accordingly.

At the end of a pay period, your HR department does not need to do any math. The software on the computer gives you total hours for each employee. So no special calculations to do for payroll.
