De United Foods Industries Ltd, makers of Indomie instant noodles has demonstrated its determination at promoting education in Nigeria through the reward of academic excellence.

At its Trans Amadi Office, the company, Wednesday, presented gift awards to 10 students and their mothers in recognition of the children’s excellent performance in an essay competition organized by the company recently in Port Harcourt.

Earlier, the company had rewarded over 100 students drawn from different Primary and Secondary Schools (private and public) in Port Harcourt that performed well at the Indomie essay competition entitled, “My Mummy is an Indomie Mummy because … held at the various schools involved.

Presenting the gifts, Mr Uzochukwu Aniagoh, Dufil area marketing manager, Port Harcourt, pointed out that, the gesture was in recognition of the importance of education in national development and the role mothers play in the educational ability of their children.

He said the award is to show how indomie appreciates the family and its interest in developing the Nigerian child academically and urged the students not to relent in their efforts.

“It is in recognition of Indomie’s understanding of the value of motherhood. Indomie is a product that is family-friendly. We always see mothers as playing key roles in families. Indomie has invited the mothers of the best ten to present them with gifts for producing good children, he said.

In his remarks, Mr. Kingsley LongJohn Chijioke, state coordinator, Cross Marketing Support Nig. Ltd, the Agency that conducted the Indomie Promotion said the essay was organised among other things to commemorate the Mothers Day.

He said that schools from six local government areas in the state were involved, from which, 400 out of 4,000 students that participated in the competition were selected.

He further said that the best ten were selected from the best 100 students at the end of the competition, adding that later the best three students would equally be selected from the best 10 and rewarded at the grand finale scheduled in Lagos.

The three best students and their mothers would be rewarded again by Indomie, he said.

Mrs. Cecilia Obomanu, whose child was among the best 10, and also a recipient of the Indomie award, expressed gratitude to Indomie for coming up with the initiative and the awards.

She adviced students to always take their studies serious as there is a reward for hard work and success.

One of the students, Master Ikubudike Ishie, Primary five student of Mater Dei Education Centre, said he felt elated being encouraged for something good he did.
