The new Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme, will lead to a major shift in primary school curriculum, UBE Commission Executive Secretary, Gidado Tahir has said.
Speaking at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja Tuesday, Tahir said that this was so because the new UBE programme was broad in nature.
According to him, new values would be added to give the pupils sound education and a new orientation.
He said that such values would be in the areas of democracy, entrepreneurship and Self-actualisation, literacy skills, computer literacy and French.
Tahir, said that the curriculum would build up the pupils’ individual mind and make them have the right values for national development.
“What government is trying to do is to meet basic needs of the pupils, he added.
He said that the development of such a curriculum was one of the teething problems of the commission, but added that it was being tackled.
The executive secretary said books would be developed for the scheme based on the curriculum.
