NIGERIANS needs about 16 million housing units to cater for an affordable and habitable accomodation in the country, according to Housing and Urban Development Minister, Dr Segun Mimiko.
Mimiko who spoke at the flagging off of public/private hosing scheme in the state said the project was part of the economic reforms of the Federal Government to alleviate the suffering of the people noting that the Federal Government has decided to set up various agencies in the sector with a view of realising its objective
The minister added that the Real Estate Develpers Association of Nigeria was one of the agencies the government would make use of in order to achieve its target.

Adding that the government alone could not bear the burden of providing affordable and quality accommodation for the people, hence the partnership with private developers.
He added that the government was collating data on housing needs of Nigerians, hence the inclusion of questions on the housing situation of Nigerians in the last census exercise.

Mimiko however commended Shelter View Investment Nigeria Limited for being part of the objective of the FG.
Noting that the government had signed 23 Memoranda of Understanding with private developers across the country.
In his speech, the Chief Executive of Shelter View, Chief Ladipo Anisulowo, said his company was ready to povide quality and affordable housing units at reasonable rates to the people.
Anisulowo, who is from Ekiti State, added that he had done similar things in many parts of the country, and called on Ekiti indigenes to come home and develop it.

He said the estate would be called Sheter View City and would consist of 2,3,4 bedroom detached houses.
About two billion naira is expected to be spent on the project.
Ekiti State Governor,Mr Ayo Fayose, represented by his deputy,Mrs Abiodun Olujimi, promised the assistance of the state for the project.
