60 Swiss firms to invest in Nigeria

Sixty Swiss companies have indicated interest to invest in Nigeria.

Swiss ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Pierre Helg, said in Zaria, Kaduna State, recently that the companies indicated interest at a business forum in Switzerland during Obasanjo’s visit.

The envoy was on a visit to the Electric Metre Company of Nigeria (Emcon).

He said the Swiss government had confidence in Nigeria’s current economic reform programme, adding that it was encouraging its companies to invest in Nigeria.

Helg said Nigeria and Switzerland had two things in common, the repatriation of Nigeria’s looted funds and the development of technical cooperation.

He congratulated Emcom, saying the production of precision instruments at competitive prices would help to create jobs, pay taxes to government and contribute to the economic reforms.

In his address, Emcom MD, Shehu Karaye, said the company was the only electrical meter company in west Africa.

He said the company would open three additional offices in the sub-region.

Karaye said the leading company in metering had contributed massively to the nation’s economic strength, adding that the company had a bright future.
