Leave 2007 to God, Ibori Urges Nigerians

Postby Richard Akindele » Tue Jul 25, 2006 4:36 am

Governor James Ibori of Delta State, has advised Nigerians to be less apprehensive about the 2007 general elections, saying God would resolve all issues relating to the exercise.

He said he would not have sleepless nights over the forthcoming election in Delta State and Nigeria in general, and urged Nigerians who believe in God to trust Him to see the country through a successful, peaceful, rancour-free, (and) violence-free transistion.

While assuring that what remained for him "is to preside over a credible transition in Delta State," he prayed that God would "equally give Obasanjo the courage and all it takes to navigate the political terrain in 2007."

In his sermon, Archbishop Nicholas Okoh of the Baptist Convention, advised Nigerians to fear God and depend on Him, because only God establishes kings and elevates people to glorious positions.

This Day.

Nigerians leave every challenge to God. Instead of us to dive in and conduct research, look at how elections have gone in the past, find answers to why we failed, and how those failures can be averted in future, instead we sit around and leave everything to God.

Consider successful nations in the world today. They don't simply leave everything to God. If you believe in God, then you ought to understand that God gave you a brain for a reason. But if you refuse to use that brain, then you deserve whatever outcome results.

Heaven helps those who help themselves. Get off you butts and help yourself. Once you've done everything within your powers to ensure success, you can then call upon God to make things go as planned.

Do I believe in God? I would say I do. But I don't believe I'm supposed to call on him for every single one of my problems without me making all the necessary effort first. Same should go for you.
