Mallam Nuhu Ribadu has said that past corrupt Nigerian rulers will be stopped from seeking political offices in 2007.
Mallam Ribadu said it was imperative to stop the former rulers so as to prevent the corruption and contamination of the electoral process.
"We are going to prevent past leaders from contesting elections by exposing their ills no matter how highly they are placed, because they plunged this country into tokunbo stage.
"It is not possible to have free and fair elections when corrupt people are allowed to contest elections. I know that I have made enemies and lost friends but the job must be done".
Though he did not mention the names of ex-rulers, he said with the likes of such former leaders who made their money from corrupt practices, Nigeria cannot have free and fair election next year.
Insisting that the past leaders have no reason to come back, other than to come and feed from the 36 billion foreign reserves the EFCC boss said the commission was ready to expose any contestant who have that motive to come back to power.
Also speaking at summit, the president of NLC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said those who looted or benefited from the looting boat are not qualified to contest 2007 elections.
The country needs leaders who believe in the principle of democracy. Nigeria needs leaders who appreciate the dignity and value of labour and who have proven themselves in industry and entrepreneurship. We do not need parasites who have lived off the state all their lives and whose only mission is to entrench themselves even more in rent-seeking.
"Nigeria needs leaders who will own the pains and grievances of all segments of the country and do justice to them dispassionately and fairly.
"To do justice to the oppressed, the marginalized, the deprived and the disempowered requires national leaders with a pan-Nigerian vision and commitment. Every Nigerian geo-political zone, ethnic and community will be a winner if the right persons are elected irrespective of their ethnic origin."
"We must condemn and contest the negative, threat-based and violent rhetoric of ethnic champions and mobilise Nigerians across ethnic and regional divides."
According to him, "Nigerians must be prepared to defend their vote. Election riggers must be stopped and put out of business, otherwise the choice of the people cannot prevail."
