Over N6 billion has been approved by the Sokoto State Govern-ment for the execution of six road projects across the state.

The state Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Gidado, disclosed this after the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.

Gidado stated that, four out of the approved contracts are major while the other two are feeder roads.

The commisioner explained that those among the major ones include; 30km Balle-Karfen Sarki and 22km Kawadata-Nasarawa-Giyawa roads, all awarded to PW Nigeria Limited.

Similarly, the 24km Illela-Araba-Solane as well as the 2km Romon-Sarki, Romon-Liman roads were respectively awarded to both Mothercat Nigeria Limited and PW Nigeria Limited.

Contract for the feeder roads include a 33km Dogon-Daji-Salla-Sanyinna and a 3km Masu-Romon-Sarki roads.

However, the work covers the construction of a number of culverts and bridges.

According to Gidado, the council had equally approved 30 per cent as mobilisation for all the contractors which totals over N1.5 billion while explaining that the projects are expected to meet a completion period of nine months inline with the contract terms.

Gidado also disclosed that the council has approved the fabrication, supply and installation of 100 water tanks across the state at the cost N330 million.

In the same vein, contract worth N282.4 million was approved for the drilling of 150 boreholes in different localities across the state with 30 per cent down payment for the contractor.
