The Nigerian team defeated Congo 87-57 to set up a final clash today with the Malians who also beat Angola 68-60. Nigeria is gunning for her sixth title in the championship.

The Nigerians trailed the Congolese in the first quarter 22-21 but turned the table against the more physical Congolese side and won the second quarter 28-18.

The game continued in the same fashion in the third quarter. The coaches Adeka Dauda and Masai Ujiri tutored side introduced a zonal style of play which caught the Congolese unawares ending the quarter 24-09.

The fourth quarter was not different Nigerians winning 14-08 for a total score of 87-57 points to set up a final duel against hard fighting Mali.

Team captain and starting point guard, Orseer Ikyaator led the team in scoring with 22 points, 3 assist and 2 rebounds. Ibrahim Yusuf added 19 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steal while Abel Baraya had a double-double of 11 points and 18 rebounds and one block Nosa Omoregie also had 11 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals to rap up the game for Nigeria.

The Nigerian players have resolved that though the country has qualified for the FIBA World Championship nothing short of winning the cup would do.

The finals come up at 14:00 today at the sports hall of the Durban University of Technology and will be aired live on Super sports.
