Johannesburg (AND) Bolton Wanderers wants to reduce the age of the squad and has unfortunately decided that Nigerian born player, Jay-Jay Okocha, is one of the players who will not be returning to the team, next season.

Augustine Okocha, who goes by the nickname of Jay-Jay was born 14 August 1973 in Enugu and is a football legend in his own right. This Nigerian football midfielder, with a squad number of ten, has truly contributed his skills to the game.

Although his contract has not been renewed, Okocha will always remain one of the best players that Nigeria has to offer. Talented Jay-Jay Okocha has set the Premiership alight and has contributed extensively to Bolton’s success.

According to his profile; the player is known as a crowd-pleaser with tricks, flicks and attacking play and has throughout the years become a force to be reckoned with.

He was signed on to the English Premier League team Bolton Wanderers in 2002 and has been with the club for four years, after a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain. He has also previously played for Fenerbahce and Eintracht Frankfurt.

His flair and finesse have resulted to him obtaining quite a few accolades:

- He has played at the 1994, 1998 and 2002 World Cup finals and many African Nations Cup tournaments. Okocha who was captain of the Super Eagles, retired from international football at the 2006 African Cup of Nations.

- He was part of the Nigerian team that won the golden medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia.

- He is a member of the FIFA 100, a list of the 125 greatest living footballers selected by Pele in conjunction with FIFA’s centenary celebrations.

-He has also been nominated BBC’s African footballer of the year (2004 and 2005).

Sam Allardyce was keen to pay tribute to Jay-Jay and Bruno because of their contribution to the club’s accomplishments. He told the club’s official website, www.bwfc.co.uk:

“Jay-Jay and Bruno will go down in Wanderers folklore. Not only for what they brought to the club in terms of experience and quality, but also for what they helped us to achieve during their time here. Nobody will ever forget their contribution.

It is unfortunate that Okocha will not be returning to Bolton Wanderers after the final day game with Birmingham, but he will always epitomise an excellent and complete African player.
